EMAS scheme
Relight has started its way to the Environmental Registration EMAS (Eco-management & Audit Scheme) as a guaranty for the quality of its activities and for its commitment towards the environment. In the 2001 version EMAS was strengthened by the integration of EN/ISO 14001 as the environmental management system required by EMAS (Regulation CE n° 761/2001). At the end of the process Relight will gain both the ISO 14001 certification and EMAS Registation.
The process
To receive EMAS registration the first step is to establish an effective environmental management system according to ISO 14001 rules, that will enable to get the Environmental Certification ISO 14001.
As a second step Relight will provide a statement of its environmental performance that will be certified by an independent verifier. After the validated statement is sent to the Competent Body (Ecolabel e Ecoaudit Commission) it has to be made publicly available. Then the organisation is listed in the register of EMAS organisations and has the right to use the EMAS logo.
At present the certification process is following these steps:
March 2004
Initial environmental review
The environmental review is an initial comprehensive analysis of the environmental problems caused by Relight activities. The purpose of the initial review is to identify the most significant environmental impacts that will be considered into the environmental management system and to lay down a benchmark to measure future success in reducing these impacts.
March 2004
Develop an environmental policy which describes Relight's overall aims, principles of action with respect to the environment and commitments to achieve continuous improvements in its environmental performance.
May 2004
EMAS project presentation and beginning of the staff training.
April - June 2004
Establishment of operating procedures and controls for a correct environmental impacts management.
July - September 2004
Operating procedures application; internal audit and review.
Autumn 2004
Independent verifier visit to get the Certification ISO 14001: 1996
The Environmental Performance Statement will follow and will be validated by the Ecolabel-Ecoaudit Comission of the Enviromental Italian Minister in order to get the EMAS Registration.
